Outcome of filming

Below is the order we filmed thing and some notes on how the filming went. I didn't keep track of the dates but it ranged from mid October and was completed on the 23rd November

1.filming with Anton ( present Dani) - I filmed the scenes with the pimp/ scummy man were he is counting his money and making lines of cocaine and snorting it. This filming didn't go overly well, as it was my first time I didn't take enough shots in a variety of angles. Some were more usable than others. The lack of sot variety doesn't matter too much as it is only 2 shots in the video.

2. Filming with Dani and Anton ( present Dani and Brisilda) We re filmed the shots of the pimp counting money and snorting cocaine. We also filmed the shots of the prostitute walking up to his house and subsequently up to his room, the shots in the bed afterwards were he throws money at her and the prostitute leaving. During this session we had issues charging the camera, this was our fault as we should of double checked how to charge the camera before leaving school. Instead of giving up we decided to film on Brasilia’s phone as the  camera quality was really good. However when importing it we realised the filming was all portrait rather than landscape and therefore didn't fit in with the rest of the video and therefore was unusable

3. Filming  prostitute getting read ( Present Dani, Brisilda and Georgia) In this session we were filming the prostitute getting ready to go out, we were also filming the end ing of the video when gets backs and takes all her make up off and appears weak and vulnerable. We were all happy with how the filming turned up, but noticed the quality of the camera wasn't every good. Upon discussion with our teachers we decided we needed to re film and use better lighting in order to make the shots looks better.

4. Town scenes (Present Dani, Brisilda and Georgia) On the 18th of November we filmed the night time scenes. We went up town and filmed shots of the prostitute walking around, counting  her money and getting food. When researching vide I really like the scene in Saul Ashby’s ‘London is a crime scene’ were he picks up items along the way, I suggested that we recreate that for our video, so while the prostitute is walking she picks up a coat and a hat. We also filmed a lot of shot of our selves walking and the scenery to show that the video takes place in a lot of different locations.

5. Re filming of getting ready scenes ( Present Dani and Georgia) Since we needed to re film the prostitute getting ready I suggested we film it to two different outfits to show the audience this isn't a one time occurrence. So everything we filmed in one outfit, for example, putting clothes on and fixing her hair we did in both outfits. We also re filmed the scenes of the prostitute drinking, going out, coming back home and taking her make up off. Getting undressed  and taking make off was only filmed in the first outfit to show that she was no longer looking back at the past. During the first filming of this scene we recorded the prostitute getting in to bed and going to sleep, this seems a little pointless when we started to piece our video together, so we left it out when re filming.

6. Filming with the client (Present Dani) As mentioned previously we were unable to  use the footage we filmed on our second shoot. The friend who's house we were filming in has moved so we were unable to film in the same location. I suggested that we carry on using the money and cocaine scenes from the first shoot and re film the prostitute entering and leaving the house. As I was filming by myself I was unable to film the scenes in the bed, so just filmed what I was able to do. I feel the shots worked well and as we didn't use Anton like we had had originally planned, I feel using William helped to show that she was a prostitute and sees many different men.

7.  Re filming with the pimp (present Dani and Georgia) After feedback we learnt that we needed to re include the sections of the video including the pimp. As what we had previously filmed was unusable we  had to re film in order to include the pimp n our video. I think what we got worked well as we are now able to jump between the prostitute and the pimp getting ready.  Also we were able to film the prostitute getting in to the car, which I believe made the video look a lot more realistic.

8. Final prostitute smoking scenes ( present Dani) In order to have enough footage to fill the whole of the song we needed to record another small piece. I thought having the prostitute up against a lamp post smoking would work well for the final clip we needed. The lamp post had been a scene we had spoke about including when we first story boarded our video, but when we originally filmed it the camera wasn't held correctly and therefore it couldn't be used. Being the only group member present limited the shots I could do. For the long shots I had the actor playing the pimp holding the camera.

Filming Shot list

Filming Locations

Georgia’s house: We plan to film the scenes of the prostitute getting ready at Georgia’s house. This is because her bedroom is moulin rouge themed, with a four post bed and red silk sheet. Her room also has a large mirror which will be useful when we are filming the prostitute getting ready

Will’s house: we are filming the scenes with the pimp and prostitute at Will’s house. His bedroom has a graffiti wall and we feel this would look really good in the background of the pimp counting money and snorting cocaine. He also has a black glass table in his room which he will be using to count the money and snort the drugs

Town:  in town we will be filming shot of scenery as well as the prostitute walking around trying to find a client. We will be filming in the square, near the church and by the Met lounge. We think these places are right to film in as the square is likely to be busy so it will look more realistic. The church and the Met lounge tend to be dark so we believe this will work to show that the prostitute isn’t happy with how her life has turned out and since has become a dark and gloomy person

Take away: we will film the prostate filming in a local takeaway towards the end of the video. We decided to do this as we are showing her to be cold and hungry, but then a passer by throws money at her as they assume she is begging. We feel that this will show that her life is slightly looking up

Dani’s house: as we could no longer film at Will’s house I decided to use my house as the final location for the prostitute meeting a client. Ill set the camera up to watch me walking around the streets and eventually walk up to the house. Ill film the client letting her in and them walking up the stairs, followed, finally by the prostitute leaving

Bradley’s house: as we were using Bradley to re film the pimp scenes, it made sense to film the scenes at his house. This will also be the location for the digipak shoot. At this location we’ll film the pimp getting ready as well as the prostitute arriving and leading the pimp up stairs

Orton Centre: this is where we will re film the town scenes that didn't work the first time around. In this location we will film the scenes that we took inspiration from from Ed Sheeran’s ‘A team’  video this will include scenes like the prostitute sitting and laying on the bench. We will also include shots of passers by

Props/ outfits

We wanted to follow classic conventions when planning the outfits for the prostitute, so I picked outfits that were revealing. The first outfit, and the outfit that is featured the most is a black playsuit, with lace at the front and the back. I personally feel this outfit is very revealing and suits the character well. The second outfit, the one used in the past memories  consisted of a tight black mini skirt and a sheer blouse. Although more covered up than the first outfit, I feel the short skirt and sheer blouse still fit the character well. For the pimp I felt a classic ‘Jack the lad’ outfit would work well, I also thought it was important to keep the outfit fashionable, so I decided on a burgundy Harrington jacket, white top and jeans. I think this outfit worked really well and looked effective on camera. I think the pimp would look best if he had stubble for a beard, as this would make him appear older. I wanted the outfit for the client the be fashionable. Therefore we with simple light jeans and a black graphic top

Prop are key to making this video work so we created stacks of fake money to use in the pimp scenes, these would be laying around the table and he would be counting some. We also used baking powder to mimic cocaine so the pimp could line it up and pretend to snort it, we got him to use a fake £20 note to snort the powder. For the scenes of the prostitute getting ready we need an empty bottle of vodka that we can fill with water and use it to take shots.

Cast

We originally planned to cast our friends in the roles we needed for our video. over time we learnt this would create issues.   At first we planned to use Curtis as our pimp and Roisin as our prostitute. We had completed our planning and we we're ready to begin filming, at this point it became apparent that Curtis would be difficult to work with. It was very difficult to pin down when he was free to film and when we had arranged to film he would stop replying to our texts. It was then decided that we shouldn't use Curtis in our video. As we were planning to film at his house we needed to find somewhere new to film the scene including the pimp. I felt that my friend Anton would  be good in the role and another friend allowed us to film at their house. Now we had secured a pimp, we found it difficult to work with Roisin as our prostitute, she was also filming her coursework at the same time as such, so wasn't always able to film. The first night we arranged to film with both Anton and Roisin she didn't show up. At that point I deiced it was too risky to include her in the video as it was clear she wasn't committed. We all knew the best bet was to have someone in our group to be the prostitute, as we would always be there. I was suggested that I take up the role as the other group members didn’t feel comfortable as the prostitute. In the end I played the prostitute, Anton played the pimp and my friend William was one for the prostitute’s clients. Brisilda and Georgia will play parts of passers by in the video to save any issues with when other people are able to film.

Update:

We decided we needed to re film the parts of the video with the pimp in, as we never ended up using them the first time around as the camera wasn't held correctly. This time we weren't able to use Anton as the pimp and since we weren't using any of the scenes previously filmed this wasn't a problem. Therefore we have decided to use Bradley as our pimp as well as a passer by in the town scenes

Ideas For Advert

Below are 3 annotations of ideas for adverts

Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys are an English indie rock band formed in 2002, signed to the indie record label, Domino. The band consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (lead guitar), Nick O'Malley (bass), and Matt Helders (drums). Their debut album is the fastest-selling debut album by a band in British chart history.  Arctic Monkeys have won 7 Brit awards, they have been nominated for 2  Grammy awards. In 2006 they won the Mercury prize for their debut album, they also received nominated in 2007 and 2013. They are known for being one of the first bands to come to public attention via the  internet, this shows a change in the way bands are promoted and marketed

We have decided to use the Arctic Monkeys song 'When the sun goes down' for our music video. The song was realised in January 2006 and was the second single of their debut album ' Whatever people say I am, thats what I'm not'

Basic Ideas For Video/ Digipak/ Advert

Basic ideas for the music video, digipak and advert

Album Advert Research

From looking at these poster I have learnt that

  • The ones with no images stand out more
  • If you do use an image use the same one thats on the cover of the album, as then people will recognise the album
  • Keep the colours simple and make sure they work together ( max 3)
  • The font should be simple and bold to make it stand out
  • Adverts look best if you keep them simple, for example just artist name, album name, release date and where you can get it
  • Include links to websites and social media, as it is a way for the audience to get involved

Digipak Research

Conventions I have noticed while looking at digipaks
  • Covers tend to be simple, with just one image
  • The same 1 or  2 fonts are used throughout the exterior of the album and inside to the disc
  • Discs and back of the album contain information about copyright, as well as the record label and any website or social media links
  • images on the back aren't always used, but when they are they are similar to the image on the front of the album
  • artist name and album name need to be clear and easy to read
  • Track lists are normally to the right, however my research shows that this doesn't always have to be the case
  • Numbers of the tracks don't need to be used, they sometimes look better without
  • Carry any themes across the whole album e.g sweets and clouds in Katy Perry's album and ombre on Miley Cyrus'
  • Barcordes are always on the back usually away from the main information
